Learn about more about Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is the business of stealing freedom for profit. In some cases, traffickers trick, defraud or physically force victims into selling sex. In others, victims are lied to, assaulted, threatened or manipulated into working under inhumane, illegal or otherwise unacceptable conditions. It is a multi-billion dollar criminal industry that denies freedom to 24.9 million people around the world.

Simply put, human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. It involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to exploit human beings for labor or commercial sex.

Every year, millions of men, women, and children worldwide, including in the United States, are involved in human trafficking. They are often lured with false promises and manipulated by people they trust.  Then, they are forced and coerced into prostitution, domestic servitude, or other types of labor.

The Business of Human Trafficking

Money is the main motive of those engage in human trafficking. It is estimated that human trafficking generates $150 billion in profits globally, putting it on par with the illegal drug trade. One third of that is from labor trafficking and two thirds is from sex trafficking.
