Shattering The Red Zone: Understanding and Combating Rape Culture on College Campuses

The Red Zone is the time of year, taking place from the beginning of the fall semester to the beginning of Thanksgiving Break, when the majority of college campus sexual assaults happen. #ShatteringTheRedZone is an annual campaign by Promoting Awareness | Victim Empowerment (PAVE) dedicated to raising awareness and shattering the silence about college sexual violence, specifically by raising awareness on the period during the fall semester where sexual assault is most prevalent.

Receiving comprehensive sex education has been found to prevent sexual assault in college.2 However, the majority of students aren’t receiving prevention training in K-12.3 To combat the Red Zone, understanding sexual violence, specifically in a college campus setting, is the first step. Use our toolkit, Shattering The Red Zone: Understanding and Combating Rape Culture on College Campuses, to begin these conversations on your campus. In this toolkit you’ll find information on sexual violence, relationships, rape culture, Title IX, Greek Life, providing support, and more.
